Hi All.
Earlier this week on Tuesday 11th of November I took two clients from England Mike and Liz on a birding trip and yesterday 13th of November I also took out dedicated local birders George and his friend from Gauteng to Roodewal forest,Entabeni Forest and Muirhead Dams.
Starting on Tuesday morning at Roodewal forest a pair of African Crowned Eagle were there on a big Pine trees. While walking on a trail we also saw a pair of Crested Guineafowl with about 8 chicks.A good sighting of a single Scaly Throated Honeyguide patched for longer enough on a tree.At Muirhead dams my guests were entertained by about 4 pairs of African Pygmy Goose,White Backed Duck,African Jacana,Black Crake and Malachite Kingfisher.A quick drive to Entabeni forest along the Lutanandwa River provided some nice sightings of a pair of Half Collared Kingfisher,Narina Trogon,African Pygmy Kingfisher and Mountain Wagtail.
On Thursday late morning I went for a birding scouting preparing to meet my clients who planned for a short birding walk at Entabeni forest before they leave to Punda Maria for birding weekend. My highlight of the morning was a display of African Broadbill which shows that the breeding season has started.A single Grey Headed Parrot fying over was seen along the river. At 10:30 I joined up with George and his friend to Entabeni forest.Amongst many birds the highlights was a single Bat Hawk at the tall gum trees. While searching for African broadbill we had a good look of a single African Wood Owl.Another good stop was at Lutanandwa River that produced both Half Collared and African Pygmy Kingfisher.
Happy Birding!
