On Friday afternoon Diana and I drove to Sagole Big Tree in Venda
just after Zwigodini village north east of Thohoyandou town for
afternoon bird watching.
We had a magnificent afternoon birding around the huge Baobab tree in
the region if not the entire Africa. Our highlights of the afternoon
included the good sightings of several Mottled Spinetails circling
around the tree with one or two going inside the tree cave.
The highlight of the day was a single African Hobby seen flying past
the big tree latter in the afternoon.Other birds good we saw nearby
the big tree include amongst others;
Yellow Bellied Greenbul
Southern Red Headed Weaver
Jacobin Cuckoo,
White Throated Robin Chat
Red Backed Shrike
Klaas's Cuckoo
Grey Backed Camaroptera
Long Billed Crombec
African Firefinch
Swaison's Spurfowl
Golden Breasted Bunting
Spotted Flycatcher
Woodland Kingfisher
Pin-Tailed Whydah
Southern Grey-Headed Sparrow
Natal Spurfowl
Willow Warbler
White Bellied Sunbird etc.
Happy Birding,
