Around this time of the year a variety of birds are heard calling and
seen and some are breeding as well as the arrival of the migrants
birds in South Africa.I conducted and led some of the birders and
birding groups such as Michelle and Annartjie group a local birding
club from Gauteng,Carolyn McDonald's group Meet us in Africa with
birders from England and Klaus Rust's group with Swiss birders.I am
glad now that most of birders are starting to make it a must that
stopping at Central Soutpansberg especially Louis Trichardt and Venda
on their way to Punda Maria,Pafuri Gate,Mapungubwe Park and Botswana
is worth it.
I led my clients to Roodewal Nature Reserve, Muirhead Dams,Entabeni
Forest and Thohoyandou Botanical Garden with this highlighted birds at
Roodewal Reserve we had amongst others African Broadbill,Narina
Trogon,Scaly Throated Honeyguide,Olive Bushshrike,Orange Breasted
Bushshrike,Gorgeous Bushshrike(heard),Mountain Wagtail,Half Collared
Kingfisher,African Cuckoo Hawk,African Crowned Eagle,Red Faced
Cisticola,Olive Woodpecker,Crested Guineafowl,Green
Twinspot(heard)Lanner Falcon and Jackal Buzzard.
Entabeni Forest also produced some nice sightings of birds and great
close views of this birds amongst others Orange Ground Thrush,Bat
Hawk,Narina Trogon,Yellow Streaked Greenbul,Grey Cuckooshrike,Green
Twinspot,White Starred Robin,Chorister Robin Chat,African Emerald
Cuckoo and Lanner Falcon with two chicks in the nest.
