I had another interesting Soutpansberg birding outing with Lisl Van De
Venter but this time her main target bird was White-Backed Night-Heron
that she read from my regular posting in the birding net.She picked me
at Shiluvari Lodge Saturday morning and we went to Luvuvhu River
which is in the Private Springfield farm.I led her to my patch but
from the otherside of the dam hoping that we will get a clear view but
unfortunately we flushed some of the birds like the Giant Kingfisher
and some Cormorants who were perching from the same tree.
We tried again but now from the trail that led to the site of the tree
that White-Backed Night-Heron roost and the tree was leafless and I
told her not to worry as it seems they likely to move to the more
leafy tree and there I spotted a single White-Backed Night-Heron
sitting against a branch facing the river.
Kind Regards,
