Subject: [limpopobirding] African Broadbill,Orange Ground Thrush and Bat Hawk
Hi Birdnetters.
What a good birdwatching days and more lifers but this time as you
know local is lekker I was out with George and Babra Skinner,young
birders Dr Nick and Sharon from Gauteng Province.
It was on the 4th of February on Thursday early morning when we went
to Roodewal Reserve to look for Broadbill and after some minutes of
searching for it we heard
it calling in the thick forest and I managed to locate it and they
all had a close and superb view of a male African Broadbill.
Other birds we have seen include;
African Crowned Eagle
Amur Falcon
Eastern Nicator
African Firefinch
Scaly Throated Honeyguide
The next following day we went out to Muirhead Dams,Entabeni Forest
and Miombo Forest and we ticked special birds amongst others;
Orange Ground Thrush
Bat Hawk
Lemon Dove
Pink Throated Twinspot
African Pygmy Goose
African Pygmmy Kingfisher
African Fish Eagle
Jackal Buzzard
Long Crested Eagle
Although we did not picked up species like Blue Spotted
Wood-Dove,Spotted Creeper,White Breasted Cuckooshrike and Southern
Hyliota however my clients were happy as they managed to tick 10
lifers between them.
Regards,
