I had a couple of outings during June months with some of the birders
Richard and friend,McDonalds from Gauteng and Cape Town and others
most of them they stopped over on their way to Kruger Park as is only
100 km away from Central Soutpansberg.It was cold here in the
Soutpansberg but birding was good as always.We went to most birding
sites in the central Soutpansberg such as Roodewal Nature
Reserve,Muirhead Dams,Entabeni Forest,Thohoyandou Botanical Garden and
Golwe Vhuri vhuri Campsite to name a few.
At a private Springfield Farm dams we had a nice sightings of of a
pair of White Backed Night-Heron and African Finfoot.
The highlights at Roodewal Nature Reserve were sightings of African
Broadbill,Narina Trogon,Green Twinspot,Gorgeous Bush-shrike,African
Crowned Eagle sitting on top of the Pine Tree,Crested Guineafowl,Olive
Bush-shrike,Orange Breasted Bush-Shrike,Red Faced Cisticola amongst
Muirhead Dams produced special birds like Blue Spotted
Wood-Dove,Tambourine Dove,African Pygmy Goose,African Black Duck,Half
Collared Kingfisher,Red Backed Manikkin,Scaly Throated
Honeyguide,Olive Woodpecker and Golden Weaver.
Entabeni Forest highlights were Bat Hawk,Orange Ground Thrush,Grey
Cuckooshrike,White Starred Robin,Forest Buzzard and along the
Lutanandwa river we had African Broadbill and Mountain Wagtail.
Thohoyandou Botanical Garden highlights amongst others were Blue
Spotted Wood-Dove,Pink Throated Twinspot,Tambourine Dove, Eastern
Nicator,Bearded Scrub Robin,Gorgeous Bushrike and Green Twinspot.
At Venda Vhuri Vhuri Campsites special birds there were African
Broadbill,Narina Trogon,Pink Throated Twinspot and Green
Twinspot,African Wood Owl,Gorgeous Bush-shrike,White Crested
Helmet-Shrike,Southern Boubou and Eastern Nicator.
